Former Indian envoy in town

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, AUG 11 -
Amid Nepal’s deepening political crisis following repeated failures to elect a new prime minister, former Indian Ambassador to Nepal K. V. Rajan, who is also a member of the National Security Advisory Broad of India (2008, April), arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday. He got off an Indian Airlines flight at 4:15 in the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Rajan’s visit comes hot on the heels of former Indian Secretary Shyam Saran’s visit. Saran was in Nepal as a special emissary of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week with a reported mandate to engage with all political parties to forge consensus.

Political analysts and observers believe the flurry of visits by Indian diplomats in the wake of deteriorating political crisis can have repercussions in the shaky political course of Nepal.

Rajan, who has extensive contacts in Nepal’s political circle, is considered a Nepal expert in Delhi.
