12 Nepalis held captive in Libya
KAKADBHITTA (JHAPA), AUG 10 -
Twelve Nepalis, who had gone to Libya five months ago for employment, have been held captive by their employing company.
One of the victims, Ritu Bhattarai, told the Kathmandu Post over phone that he, along with 11 men, are locked in a room by their employer, Executive Constructions and Real Estate Development, for the past five days without any food.
Bhattarai, who hails from Shanischare of Jhapa, said they were detained following a dispute over salary. He the company had been paying them Libyan Dinar (LYD) 400 against LYD 700 they were promised by their agent Prem Rijal. Rijal had charged Rs.200,000 each from the victims to send them to Libya. “When we raised our voice against low pay, the company terminated us from our jobs of security guards and locked us,” Bhattarai said.
The other detainees include Devraj Meche of Shanischare, Jhapa; Amar Barakoti of Birtamod, Jhapa; Tanka Subedi of Dhulabari, Jhapa; Jainarayan Sedhai of Dhulabari, Jhapa; Dilli Sitaula of Damak, Jhapa; Tej Prasad Sitaula of Birtamod, Jhapa, Dinesh Poudel of Gadagalli, Jhapa; Yuvraj Shiwakoti of Prakashpur, Sunsari; Dambar Pariyar of Jitpur, Ilam; Kajiman Magar of Mahamai, Ilam and Lekh Bahadur Magar of Jate, Morang.
