Rasuwa hospital ward gets Rotary aid

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, AUG 07 -
People of at least 18 VDCs in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts stand to benefit from health equipment recently donated to the paediatric ward of the Kalika Community Hospital in Kalikasthan, Rasuwa.

The hospital is now equipped to provide all kinds of treatment to children. Earlier, villagers here had to walk all the way to Dhunche, Rasuwa district headquarters.

“That our children can get care at the community hospital is a boon for us,” said Bhawani Prasad Neupane, a villager, adding it would save their time, money and efforts.

Dr. Nipsang Lama, who works as a volunteer at the hospital, said treating patients had been easier with the new equipment. “We used to refer patients to Kathmandu-based hospitals. Now there are cases of patients coming from District Hospitals instead,” said Lama. The equipment worth Rs. 1.6 million ($23,000), handed over to the hospital on July 27, include 10 beds, 10 foot trays, IV stands, photo therapy machine and oxygen conservator. They were donated under the matching grant of Korea District 3650 and Nepal District 3292 of the Rotary International as well as Rotary Club of Bagmati.

In addition, Korean Rotary 3650 District Governor Young Park also donated Rs. 210,000 ($3,000) to the maternity ward of the hospital.

“We hope our small initiative will definitely help the rural people get better treatment,” said Park. He told the Post that he, as well as the Rotary Club of Korea, was committed to supporting the hospital in future too.

Project Coordinator Prakash Pradhan said the Club was planning to install an operation theatre at the hospital. He added plans were afoot to support education in the district.
