White paper on Gurkhas’ rights

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, AUG 06 -
With a view of bringing to light the actual British human rights standards vis-à-vis Gurkhas, Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen’s Organisation (GAESO) has issued a white paper focusing on Gurkhas’ rights that are yet “to be addressed” by the British government.

According to GAESO, the white paper mainly aims at informing the world about the current positions and conditions of the British Gurkhas. “Through this whitepaper, we have also made an attempt to expose the conspiracies and attacks on GAESO by the British Ministry of Defense,” said Mahendra Lal Rai, general secretary of GAESO.

However, GAESO-UK, on Thursday issued a statement maintaining that GAESO has “betrayed the Gurkha sentiments by declaring that Gurkhas have got more than they asked from the British government”.

Denouncing the allegation, Rai said they have still been fighting for the rights of Gurkhas.   (PR)
