NC convention held in districts

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, AUG 04 -
Amid uncertainty in the Capital of the formation of the new government, Nepali Congress (NC) has concentrated its efforts on holding its district conventions after the completion of village- and constituency-level conventions.

The NC elected leadership in 10 districts as of Wednesday. The party has decided to hold conventions in remaining districts on Aug. 12, postponing it from Monday owing to the election for the prime minister falling on the same day.

The party source said the convention was held in the districts where Constitution Assembly members were not vying for leadership.

In Rukum, 35-year-old Man Bahadur Nepali was elected District President unanimously. Most of the district committee members are said to be close to the establishment. In Gorkha, Hari Bahadur Ghale has been elected the president.

He secured 338 votes while his nearest rival Ishwor Pandey garnered 244 votes. Ghale is aligned with the party establishment.

Manab Sijwal has been elected the president in Jumla, Mohan Prasad Baral in Sindhuli, Tara Bahadur Koirala in Dolakha, Ganesh Chand in Salyan and Pradip Sunuwar is the party chief in Okhaldhunga.
