RAJENDRA MANANDHAR

DOLAKHA, AUG 03 -
Nine persons, including a woman, were killed when a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall swept away a camp of construction workers and an eatery near Mulkharka of Gaurishankar-6, Dolakha, on Monday night. Two workers went missing and six others were injured, two critically, in the incident.

More than 50 persons, who had been working for the under-construction Sipringkhola Hydropower Project, were putting up in the camp that had been set up near the reservoir of the project. About three dozen persons survived the incident by fleeing into the tunnel, police said.

Synergy Power Development Company is constructing the 9.6 megawatt hydropower project at Sipringkhola along the border of Gaurishankar and Khare VDCs, about 50 km north of the district headquarters Charikot.

According to the District Police Office, a team of 20 policemen has been deployed in the site to carry out rescue work.

A Nepal Army helicopter airlifted the injured and the dead bodies to Charikot. Two critically injured workers were later rushed to the Capital for the treatment.
