Police post’s return from ‘exile’
ROLPA, AUG 03 -
It’s a return from exile. Holeri Area Police Office of Rolpa that took the first blow of what was the decade-long Maoist insurgency is being rebuilt after 14 years. Fourteen years is what Lord Ram got from his stepmother Kakeyi to stay in exile.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Hari Prasad Bastola and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishnapyara Kharel jointly laid the foundation of the 11-room building on Tuesday. The construction of the improved and fortified building is expected to be complete in six months. CDO Bastola said that in the coming days the other police posts that were destroyed in the civil
war would also be reconstructed.
DSP Kharel voiced hope that the difficulties regarding accommodation and office operation faced by the security personnel working in rural parts of Rolpa would soon be addressed.
After the Maoists launched their armed rebellion on Feb. 13, 1996 by attacking the Holeri Area Police Office, they attacked other police bases in Rolpa. The district’s hinterland served as a Maoist bastion.
The government redeployed police to these areas only after the Maoists laid down arms and joined the peace process.
As the previous office buildings were rendered uninhabitable, police personnel had to rent houses to set up offices.
