Youths shine in Congress convention
KATHMANDU, AUG 01 -
The constituency-level convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) concluded in various districts on Sunday, electing mostly young faces this time around.
The convention held on Saturday elected chairpersons and the representatives in the constituencies of 61 districts. In some constituencies, the chairpersons and the convention representatives were elected unanimously while there was fierce competition, mainly between the establishment and the Sher Bahadur Deuba side, in various other constituencies.
In Sankhuwasabha, more that 60
percent youths have been elected in the village, municipal and regional committees. Mukti singh Rai, who has been elected as representative for the upcoming national convention of the party, said it was obvious that youths got elected as most of the active members are youths.
Our correspondent in Biratnagar said young party men dominated in various districts in the Eastern Development region. Senior NC leaders like Amod Prasad Upadhyay, Mahesh Acharya, Minendra Rijal and Ashok Koirala have been elected from Morang district.
In Nepalgunj, NC leaders close to acting party president Sushil Koirala and senior leader Deuba were contesting the party election. A party source said most of the elected leaders are close to Koirala.
According to our regional bureau Pokhara, most of the elected members of the Western Development region are old party members.
