Dragonair to increase flights

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, AUG 01 -
Dragonair, a Hong Kong-based international airline, has announced increasing its flights between Kathmandu and Hong Kong to six a week from the existing three flights from Sept. 1.

The airline plan to operate seven days a week from November subject to government approval, the carrier said at a press meet on Sunday.

Dragonair said that the added frequency would make things more convenient for travellers to Hong Kong and onward international destinations.

The airline is a member of the Cathay Pacific Group and was recently voted 2010 World’s Best Regional Airline in the prestigious Skytrax survey. The carrier said that Nepal was an important and growing market for Dragonair.

The airline started flying to Nepal in December 2007. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Dragonair’s total flight movement in 2009 amounted to 390 with 47,658 passenger movement (22,207 departures and 25,451 arrivals). The international flight and passenger movement in 2009 was 15,701 and 2,027,147 respectively.

"We are excited to announce this further increase in frequency to Kathmandu keeping in mind to offer more convenience as well as better service quality for the passengers travelling to and from Nepal," said Alasdair Boyd, Dragonair manager in Nepal. He added that the increased capacity would play a part in helping to make Nepal Tourism Year 2011 a great success.

The frequency increase is in response to the growing demand and will help boost the number of inbound tours to Nepal via Hong Kong using the extensive worldwide network offered by both Dragonair and its sister airline Cathay Pacific, said Boyd.
