VDC secys raise security clamour
KATHMANDU, JUL 25 -
An alliance of VDC secretaries has urged the government to hunt for and punish groups creating a milieu of terror in the villages that has prompted their mass resignation in the last few months.
Addressing a programme on Sunday, Chairman of VDC Secretary Rights Protection Centre (VDCSRPC) Bhuwani Prasad Ghimire said the government decision to deploy police personnel for their security would not
be effective without nabbing outfit members
terrorising in the villages.
“Unless the government makes the villages terror-free, we have decided not to return to VDCs and to stay on in the district headquarters,” said Ghimire.
VDCSRPC has also asked the government to form a team to look into the money that has so far been extorted by such groups from the officials. “The government should provide appropriate compensation to the secretaries,” he added.
The secretaries have also decided to pile pressure on the government to allow their transfer from one ministry or department to another.
According to the Centre, 25 secretaries have been killed since 1996 with a huge amount of money extorted by the criminals in the last couple of months.
