Unity hospital in hot water

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUL 24 -
Staff of the Jana Unity Life Hospital and Research Center under Unity Life International Company (ULIC) have halted every service of the hospital fronm Saturday to protest against the hospital management.

The hospital management has been accused of mentally harassing the staff by delaying their salary since the three months and selling off hospital equipment to “discourage the staff and make them resign so that the hospital can be shut down.”

“Either the management of the hospital should be changed or the hospital should be shut down,” said Khuma Gharti Magar, Chairperson of the Hospital Workers’ Union. “As this is directly related to the employment of 70 staffers in the hospital, this problem should be solved by handing over the management responsibility to a private or government organization.”

According to the staff, the total earning of the hospital in the last three months was Rs 3 million but the management team led by Manager Keshav Satyal has not released the salaries of the staff. “Satyal has been using the money for his personal benefit in collaboration with hospital Matron Radha Neupane and Accountant Amir Shrestha,” added Magar.

Equipment including endoscopy machines and CT scan machines have disappeared from the hospital in the last three months. Staffers claim that the management is selling off equipment without prior notice.
