Mugu may go hungry

MUGU, JUL 24 -
An NGO, Food Security Monitoring Network (FSMN), has warned of food insecrity in 14 VDCs of Mugu district.

According to FSMN secretary Ananda Rokaya,  more than 24,000 locals of the 14 VDCs are facing food insecurity. “The situation will worsen if the  authorities don’t take remedial steps,” he said.

Among the affected VDCs are Jima, Bhiri, Khamale, Hyanglu, Dolphu, Kimri, Pulu, Sheri, Shrikot and Fotu.

FSMN prepared a report after field visits to the VDCs from April to June this year.

Failure of the government to grant additional new quota of food in last year’s budget and lack of supply of food materials by  World Food Organisation due to unfavourable weather conditions are major reasons for the food insecurity, the report said
