Teachers’ protest halts DEO work
PARSA, JUL 18 -
Work at the District Education Office (DEO) in Parsa has been halted as teachers appointed under the relief quota have been picketing the office for the past 27 days.
The agitating teachers have been demanding that the DEO recognise their appointment and provide them salaries. They claim that they have not received salary for the past one year.
They have been staging a sit-in protest at the gate of the DEO since June 22.
Shyam Ghimire, the chairman of Relief Teachers’ Struggle Committee, accused the DEO of ruining the future of 87 teachers appointed in various schools in the district. According to
him, 16 of the 87 odd teachers have been given their salaries
and their appointments have been validated.
“The rest of the teachers are left in the lurch,” he said.
Ghimire also accused District Education Officer Kedar Tiwari of ignoring their demands. “We are ready to sit for talks but Tiwari pays no heed to our concerns,” he complained.
Tiwari, however, denied the allegation and claimed he is doing his best to solve the problem. He claimed some of the demands raised by the agitating teachers are beyond his jurisdiction.
With the continuous obstruction of work at the DEO, service seekers have been greatly affected.
