JICA aid for Valley solar energy

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUL 17 -
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has pledged financial support to the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) to develop Malpokhari of Lalitpur as a solar energy centre.

One of the four sections of the pond, which was initially used for water treatment, will be established as the energy centre with Rs. 640 million aid from JICA.

According to Tirtha Raj Poudel, chief of the planning department at KUKL, the project will produce 300 kilowatts of solar energy.

“Power generated thus will be distributed to Wards No. 3, 4 and 5 in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City. The idea id to give the households respite from power outage,” said Poudel, adding the project would help KUKL make money as well.

KUKL plans to use the remaining three sections for water harvest.
