NEPSE claws its way up the stocks tree

KATHMANDU, JUL 14 -
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its upward trend registering a gain of 2.68 points on Wednesday. The benchmark index settled at 467.33 points when the market closed for the day.

The stock market rose propelled by a double-digit gain in the sub-index of hydropower companies. Shares of Butwal Power Company soared Rs. 93 per share to raise the hydropower sub-index.

While hydropower companies

led the winners with 43.58 points, development banks, others, insurance

companies and commercial banks witnessed gains of 2.49 points, 2.35 points, 1.98 points and 1.58 points respectively. The only losers were finance companies that lost 0.8 point.

Of the 62 companies on the trading floor, Sewa Bikas Bank witnessed the highest rise in it’s share price with an increase of Rs. 253 per share. Shares of Standard Chartered Bank suffered the most with a decline of Rs. 40 per share.

Other significant gainers of the day include Nabil Bank with Rs. 80 per share, Everest Bank with Rs. 52 per share and Everest Bank with its convertible preference shares going up by Rs. 30 per share.

Share prices of 28 companies went up, 25 companies decreased and nine companies did not see any change. The secondary market witnessed a turnover of Rs. 22.18 million from the trading of 46,911 shares in 618 transactions.
