Remittance brings prosperity to village
ARGHAKHANCHI, JUL 12 -
For many, foreign employment means earning money for private affluence. But youths at Bangi VDC in Arghakhanchi district are sweating abroad, mostly in Qatar, for the development of their birthplace.
Over 700 youths who left the village for Qatar save money by cutting their petty expenses for the development of the village.
They have donated Rs. 400,000 to local Shanti Higher Secondary School. “The youths have contributed a lot for the development of the VDC,” said Headmaster Man Bahadur Pandey.
They have spent Rs. 700,000 on the construction of motorway, electricity and irrigation projects. In three local schools, they have helped set up scholarship funds.
The youths established Bangi Qatar Samparka Samaj last year to discuss and solve the problems facing the village. “We gather to discuss problems facing ourselves and the village on a regular basis,” said Samaj Chairman Madhav Bhusal. “Each member deposits some money in the fund which will go on the treatment of the ill abroad and development works back home.”
The money the youths send home has also brought prosperity in the village. The villagers now have concrete buildings while their children go to English-medium private schools.
Bom Bahadur Basnet of Kujheri said the main source of income for his family was the money sent by his three sons in Qatar. “Once we struggled for two square meals a day, which has now been a tale. I save Rs. 40,000 per month now,” he added.
