Monsoon starts to show its might
KATHMANDU, JUL 12 -
Heavy rainfall over the past few days has crippled normal life in various districts. More than 12 people have reportedly died while dozens have been displaced by floods and landslides.
Many districts in eastern, central and western regions are receiving heavy rainfall lately, according to Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
A news report from Mahottari district said a woman was swept away on Monday morning by flooded Ratu Khola.
Similarly, six-year old Kale Gharti of Pyuthan has gone missing since Saturday morning after heavy downpour triggered a flood in Gahana Khola.
In Nawalparasi, incessant rainfall for the past few days triggered a flooding in Narayani River. The river has started eroding the spurs along its embankment. Technicians said No. 1 and 2 spurs are at risk. Failure to carry out maintenance and
repair work on time is sure to affect locals of Narayani and Nawalparasi.
Another report from Jhapa said four houses were swept away while eight others are at high risk due to a flood in Kankai River on Monday. Twenty one people have been displaced by the flood.
In Kaski, four houses at Sindure-4 were swept away by a landslide. Another report from Bara said a flood in Bangari
River has started eroding thousands of bighas of arable land in Uttarjhitkaiya village.
In Lamjung, dozens of houses are under threat as continuous rainfall for the last couple of days has started breaching the embankment situated on the east of Ilampokhari.
MFD officials have said many parts of the country, particularly the central, eastern and western regions, will receive heavy rainfall in the next couple of days.
