State re-do panel hangs

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUL 10 -
Three major parties—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML— have agreed to allocate two months for the state restructuring commission to make its recommendation on the modality of federal system to be enshrined in the new constitution.

The three parties agreed to set Sept. 31 as the deadline for the commission to submit its report to the government. A three-party meeting scheduled for Sunday will finalise the leadership and the number of members to be represented in the commission, said UML lawmaker Agni Kharel.

The big three, according to him, are ready to appoint five to seven members in the commission. The commission would prepare its report based on the spirit of state restructuring stated in the Interim Constitution and the report submitted by the CA Committee on the Restructuring of the State and the Devolution of State Power.

The report of the commission would be discussed at the CA and forwarded at the Constitutional Committee for approval. The incumbent government is likely to announce the commission formation if there is consensus in Sunday’s three-party meet.
