NEPSE in freefall
KATHMANDU, JUL 05 -
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its downward spiral for the second consecutive day Monday. The benchmark index lost 3.99 points to settle at 460.7 points at closing.
Almost all the sub-indices lost points on Monday with the finance and banking sectors shedding the most. Even though there were more companies on NEPSE's trading floor, the total number of shares traded declined on Monday. However, there was a marginal increment in the total turnover. A total of 58,361 shares were traded on Monday while the total turnover stood at Rs. 24.81 million.
Of the 21 commercial banks listed on NEPSE, Standard Chartered Bank was the highest gainer with its share price increasing by Rs. 23 while Nabil Bank lost the most, Rs. 40 per share. Among the development banks, Gurkha Development Bank gained the most with Rs. 19 per share while Subhechha Bikas Bank lost the most on Monday.
IME Financial Institution was the biggest loser among the finance companies with its share price dropping Rs. 23 per share.
