UML PP roots for unity govt

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUL 03 -
CPN-UML Parliamentary Party (PP) has urged the political parties to contribute to the formation of a national consensus government. Concluding that statue writing and peace process were impossible to be accomplished by a majority government, the party has said it will press for a national consensus government until the last moment. President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has asked the parties to form a consensus government by July 7.

“Most lawmakers suggested the party leadership go for national consensus government to ensure peace and statute,” said UML Chief Whip Bhim Acharya.

In the meeting called to take a decision about the government formation process, UML lawmakers asked Party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal to make efforts to lead a consensus government by garnering support of other parties but not to accept a Maoist-led government unless the former rebels implement past pacts.

The PP asked the leadership not to be biased while appointing ministers but to select only those victorious in the Constituent Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, speaking at an interaction in Hetauda, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal Kamal Thapa said Nepali Congress and UML should stop sidelining the Maoists and pave way for constitution writing. Thapa said the NC and the UML should respect the 40 percent vote garnered by the main opposition.
