SLC result out, 64.31 pc pass
- Success rate drops by four percent

The office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) published the results of the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams on Friday.
Over 64 percent students who appeared in this year’s regular examination have gone through. According to the results, 259,916 examinees of the total of 456, 719 managed to get past the “iron gate.”
Of the total 412, 572 regular students, 247,689 of them have succeeded. Among the regulars, 16,859 passed with distinction, while 93,339 secured first division, 128,075 passed in the second division and 9,416 secured the third division.
Among the exempted students, 29.18 percent passed the examination. A total of 12,227 of the 41,905 exempted examinees went through. Of them, 416 secured the first division, 9,114 the second, while 2,697 passed in the third division.
The pass percentage this time around went down by four percent as compares to last year. According to the OCE, frequent strikes and protests in the educational sector contributed to the pass percentage to drop this year. “A poor show by Open Schools and Maoist combatants also brought down the pass percentage rate,” Chitra Prasad Devkota, Examination controller at the OCE, said. According to the OCE, the result was delayed this year due to the Maoists’ week-long indefinite strike in May. The results can be seen on various websites like www.moe.gov.np, www.doe.gov.np www.edusanjal.com.np, www.soce.gov.np, www.ntc.net.gov.np and www.educationsansar.com.
The results can also be accessed via the SMS by dialing 1,400 from the GSM (pre-paid/post-paid mobile) of NTC, and PSTN/CDMA and GSM mobile (pre-paid/post-paid) of NTC by dialing 1600. It can also be obtained through SMS from 3636, 7676, 1101, 2906, 5001, 6363, 5225 and 2772. Around six FM stations, too, announced the results.
The SLC Board was established in 1934 when only 34 students appeared in the exams.
The OCE will be holding supplementary examinations for those failing in any two subjects from August 15. The schedule of the examination has been published in newspapers that also carry the SLC results in detail.
