Janamorcha whets anti-federalism drive
KATHMANDU, JUN 29 -
In a bid to acquaint the public with the drawbacks of the right to self-determination, federalism and other burning issues, Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal (RJN) is organising a week-long nationwide awareness programme within mid-June.
RJN has been arguing that federalism is inappropriate for Nepal as it might fuel “conflict based on ethnicity and region”.
In a statement on Tuesday, Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC said the programme will educate the people why federalism, right to self-determination, “One Madhesh One Pradesh”, multi-state federalism and provinces based on ethnicity or nationality should be rejected and not incorporated in the new constitution.
The campaign, he said, will also focus on the formation of a new government through consensus among political parties on a majority basis.
“The awareness drive will also press the government to provide security and end kidnapping, murder, violence and price hike,” KC said. “We want cessation of foreign interference in the country.”
Meanwhile, the statement said the party has suspended General Secretary Dilaram Acharya for six months on the charge of violating party rules and regulations.
The party which has four seats in the Constituent Assembly is the only party speaking against federalism, saying that it would be “suicidal” for the country.
