Jhapa locals want end to tusker terror

POST REPORT

JHAPA, JUN 27 -
Perturbed by the perenial problem of elephant attacks, locals of Bahundanghi VDC, Jhapa, have demanded their village be declared free from elephant terror.

Villagers raised such a concern during their meeting with a team of lawmakers representing Natural Resource and Means Distribution Committee of the Constituent Assembly. The parliamentary team has arrived here to inspect the widespread and rampant deforestation at various parts of Jhapa.

On Sunday, they visited some of the elephant-affected areas. During the course of inspection, locals complained elephant terror has lead to human displacement.

“The elephants destroy the harvest at the village, hitting hard farmers”, said a local, Niraj Ghimire.
