Bhandari’s nay to bulk integration
POKHARA, JUN 27 -
Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari has opposed the integration of all the UN-verified combatants into security agencies as demanded by the UCPN (Maoist),
“The Maoists are just bargaining. It is against the spirit of Comprehensive Peace Agreement,” Bhandari told reporters at Pokhara Airport on Sunday.
“A soldier per weapon is the internationally accepted basis of army integration. There are only 3,400 weapons registered. So, all the combatants can’t be integrated,” she said. There are 19,602 UNMIN-verified Maoist combatants in seven main and 21 satellite cantonment camps.
Bhandari also opposed bulk integration and said individual combatants opting for integration should fulfill the existing security standards.
