I will not quit: PM

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUN 26 -
Amid growing pressure from ruling allies and the main opposition party to pick a new prime ministerial candidate Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday said he would not resign.

“The government has the support of the political parties and I will not resign at anyone’s behest,” said Nepal speaking at the death anniversary of Govinda Bhakta Pradhananga.

Ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have been asking the prime minister to step down to pave the way for the formation of a national consensus government. He also clarified that he would not hamper matters if the parties reach a concrete understanding on forming a national consensus or majority government.

“I will be happy if the parties reach agreement to form a new government, be it majority or consensus,” he added. He added that the government’s tenure is not over as claimed by the Maoists and some UML leaders. “Those who say the incumbent government’s tenure is over have not understood the issue,” he added.
