Maoist govt must, say members
KATHMANDU, JUN 25 -
The 10-day long politburo meeting of the main opposition UCPN (Maoist) on Friday decided to form a national unity government under its leadership. It has claimed that the Maoist party should get to form the unity government as the largest component of the Constituent Assembly.
The meeting concluded after Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal answered the questions raised by members. However, the party will formally unveil the decision of the meeting amid a press conference on Saturday afternoon. “The politburo meeting has unanimously taken a decision that the party should make efforts to form a government under its leadership to take the peace and constitution writing processes to a meaningful conclusion,” politburo member Dhamendra Bastola told the Post.
The meeting has also agreed to form a majority government if the national unity government under Maoist leadership is not possible. But the main opposition is silent on Dahal’s alternative as the prime minister if the party gets a chance to form the government. According to a politburo member, the party has decided to fight on the government, parliament and street fronts simultaneously to achieve its goals.
The politburo reiterates that the party will not let the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led coalition present the policies and programmes of the government and the budget in parliament.
According to another leader, the party has decided to hold its extended meeting after politburo members demanded general convention or national conference to address ideological and organsational issues in the party.
