17 small parties up the ante against Big Three

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUN 24 -
A joint meeting of seventeen fringe parties on Thursday decided to hold discussions with the big three parties on Tuesday asking them to clarify reasons behind the protracted political stalemate.

The upcoming meeting would centre on political deadlock, national unity government, peace process and timely drafting of the constitution.

“The future of the country is uncertain with the peace process in limbo and delay in statute writing,” said Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani, senior leader of Rastriya Janashakti Party, adding that they would launch agitations if the big three—UCPN (Maoist), CPN-UML and Nepali Congress—failed to end the deadlock soon.   Speaking at the meeting held in the parliamentary office of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum Loktantrik (MJF-L), Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar said the fringe parties would suggest the name of the next prime minister if the big three continue lingering in the issue.

Gachhadar stressed on the formation of a national unity government, taking Maoists together, to deal with various problems.

They have also urged the three major parties to respect the people’s sentiments.

Representatives of MJF-L, CPN-ML, Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, and Rastriya Janashakti Party, among others, were present in the meeting.
