Fringe parties put pressure on Big 3

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JUN 23 -
Fifteen fringe parties representing the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Wednesday warned the big three parties of protests if they failed to end the political deadlock soon.

They accused the three parties—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—of hindering the peace and constitution drafting processes.

The meeting held at the parliamentary office of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik (MJF-L) in Singha Durbar concluded that the Big Three undermined the people’s interests for the sake of power.

“Big parties shouldn’t put the country in ‘dark’ in the name of power struggle,” said Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani, senior leader of Rastriya Janashakti Party.

Chief Whip of MJF-L Ram Janam Chaudhary said the meeting stressed on mounting pressure on the major three parties to end the stalemate. Instead of focusing on peace and statute, the bigwigs have continued locking horns over some issues, he charged.

“If the parties don’t reach an agreement soon, small parties will go to the people holding nationwide joint mass meetings to reveal the reasons behind the political stalemate,” said Chaudhary. He also informed that the meeting scheduled for Thursday would unveil the agitation schedule.

Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar who was supposed to attend the meeting couldn’t make to it. He is expected to attend Thursday’s meeting.

Lohani said the meeting stressed the need for simultaneous implementation of the first and third points of the May-28 deal. On May 28, the Big Three had struck a three-point deal to extend the CA tenure for a year.  Representatives of MJF-L, CPN-ML, Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party, and Rastriya Janashakti Party, among others, were present in the meeting.
