PAC corners Gachhadar
- Alleges foul play in dev projects
KATHMANDU, JUN 22 -
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday directed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijay Kumar Gachhadar to submit the details of developmental projects undertaken during his tenure, within a week.
PAC has charged minister Gachhadar with earmarking over 200 projects in Dhanusha district alone and summoned him to demand clarification in this regard.
PAC president Ram Krishna Yadav said that the panel apprehends that various ministers
have embezzled Rs.400 million on different pretexts.
However, speaking at the PAC in the Legislature-Parliament, minister Gachhadar defended himself stating that there were variations in development projects in different districts due to pressure from the ministers, lawmakers, and leaders.
“The projects were taken to Dhanusha at the behest of State Minister for Physical Planning and Works, Sanjay Shah,” said Gachhadar adding that it was usual to have a large number of development projects in some districts and not in others, as they are national level projects.
The minister also pointed out that there
was instability in the developmental projects due to “political interference.”
Minister Gachhadar finally appeared before the PAC after
he was repeatedly asked to do so.
He had been postponing his
appearance citing various excuses including “health problems” that necessitated his going to India for a medical checkup.
