PAC summons deputy PM
- Funds transfer
KATHMANDU, JUN 20 -
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijay Kumar Gachhadar on Sunday ignored a summon of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) citing health reasons.
The parliamentary oversight body had summoned the deputy prime minister to question him on the “illegal transfer” of budget from one heading to another.
The action follows reports that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works had approved road construction projects worth more than Rs. 400 million without following required legal procedures.
The PAC has decided to summon him again in its next meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning.
State Minister Sanjay Kumar Sah and Assistant Minister Kalawati Devi Pasawan were present in Sunday’s discussions of the PAC.
However, the meeting was postponed after the lawmakers demanded that Gachhadar himself appear before the committee and furnish an explanation on the alleged siphoning off of funds prior to the closure of the current fiscal year.
PAC Chairman Ram Krishna Yadav said the committee had begun a probe after complains of “illegal transfer” of budget for different projects upon “pressure from senior party leaders.”
