Armed outfits bring terror to quiet Dang
DANG, JUN 20 -
Businessmen and educational institutions are a terrified lot in Dang district as some underground armed outfits have intensified their activities.
Businessmen say little known Marxist Ganatantrik Young Tigers’ Group and CPN-MLM have struck terror into them.”They threaten to bomb our houses if we refuse to provide donation as demanded,” said a businessman of Tulsipur on the condition of anonymity.
On Saturday, the tiger’s group had planted a bomb at Janajyoti Vidyamandir in Ghorai Municipality-11 to spread panic there. “They might have placed the bomb against our reluctance to give donation demanded by the group,” said Yubraj Yogi, school principal.
Among their other activities, armed groups have intensified donation drive. Over 12 private schools have received donation letters, said Keshab Thapa, Dang chairman of Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON). “Such activities have put the fear into us” he added.
Things have started turning into worst from bad as some people here have been displaced by the day. Businessman Tilak Khadka of Tulsipur-5 was forced to leave his hometown after CPN-MLM terrified his families by planting a bomb at his house on May 9. Similar is the case of Keshar Bahadur Shai of Dudhena.
When the matter was taken to Chief District Officer Rishi Ram Dhakal, he instead accused people. “People are reluctant to give us information in details. “This has posed obstacles to us. Without public support, police can not alone stop terror activities.”
However, locals blamed police for the rise of criminal activities. “They release the accused without following due investigation process,” they said.
