Textbooks have Muslims fuming
KATHMANDU, JUN 17 -
The Muslim Association Nepal (MAN) on Thursday condemned what it termed “fake information” in the country’s grade eight Social Studies textbooks.
The textbooks published by different publication houses have “distorted” facts about the Prophet Mohammad and also have images of the Muslim God, Allah, according to MAN President, Abdul Sattar.
“Making images of Allah and Prophet Mohammad is against our religion,” Sattar told a press conference organised by MAN here. “We are deeply concerned about such serious errors and we highly condemn it.”
Representatives of the association urged the government to confiscate the books and take action against the Curriculum Development Board (CDB) for approving them.
They also threatened to launch protests if the government remained silent on the issue.
According to MAN, page 66 of the book published by New Nepal Publications shows Prophet Mohammad as a “lady-like figure.” The book also says that Prophet Mohammad was the founder of Islam.
Another book published by Asia Publications says Prophet Mohammad was the founder of Islam.
