Civil servants shut offices nationwide
KATHMANDU, JUN 17 -
Agitating civil servants shut down government offices across the country for two hours on Thursday protesting police atrocities on their demonstration on Wednesday.
Offices were closed from 10 a. m. to 12 noon affecting all the works. Service seekers were attended to only in the afternoon.
On Wednesday, police thrashed civil servants who were holding a peaceful protest outside the Ministry of General Administration in Singha Durbar opposing discrimination against automatically promoted 1,600 civil servants, who are denied the powers of the promoted posts. They were also barred from submitting a memorandum to Minister Rabindra Shrestha.
Meanwhile, Village Development Committee secretaries across the country closed down their offices on Thursday to protest the killing of their colleague in Sarlahi district. Secretary of Babargunj VDC, Indra Bahadur Shrestha was shot dead by an unknown group on Wednesday.
