Ex-king on Tarai sojourn

SHANKAR ACHARYA

PARSA, JUN 16 -
Former king Gyanendra Shah arrived in Bara on Wednesday reportedly to meet his sympathisers. Sources close to Shah, however, said the visit was purely religious.

Supporters of the deposed king gathered at Simara Airport to welcome him. They chanted pro-royalist slogans, requesting him to save the country. A significant number of Hindu Youth Federation, an organisation of Hindu fundamentalists, turned up.

Royal sympathisers and locals garlanded Shah at Jitpur while he was on his way to Parwanipur and offered prayers for about half an hour at the recently constructed Baishnodevi Temple there. He is the first man to offer puja in the temple. Shah later took part in a formal programme organised on the premises of the temple.

On the occasion, he gave felicitation letters to those who

contributed for the temple’s

construction. A large number of security personnel were deployed in the area during Shah’s visit.
