Tourist arrival ups 30pc in Q1

International visitor arrivals in Nepal witnessed a substantial growth of 30 percent in the first quarter of 2010, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) announced on Wednesday.
Of the total growth registered, visitors from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) increased by 20.98 percent to 25,160 while its share in overall tourist arrivals stood at 24.19 percent. In the same period last year, there were 20,796 tourists from SAARC countries, according to the arrival statistics compiled by the Nepal Tourism Board.
Similarly, visitors from East Asia increased by 38.61 percent to 24,855 and the share contribution of these countries in total arrivals was recorded at 23.90 percent. In the first three months last year, 17,931 tourists visited Nepal. The number of European tourists increased by 34.13 percent to 31,187 and the share contribution stood at 29.99 percent. There were 23,252 tourists from Europe in the same period last year.
Likewise, tourists from Oceania increased by 30.53 percent to 3,861 and its share in the overall arrivals stood at 3.71 percent. In the first quarter last year, there were 2,958 tourists from these countries.
Arrivals from North America increased by 23.63 percent to 9,816 in the first quarter of the current year. US arrivals accounted for 9.44 percent of the total.
In the same period last year, 7,940 tourists visited Nepal.
Arrivals from other countries went up by 29.78 percent to 9,115 and their share in the total arrivals stood at 8.76 percent.
Last year, there were 7,253 visitors recorded in the same period.
