NEPSE downturn continues

KATHMANDU, JUN 16 -
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued to shed points for the fourth consecutive day. The benchmark index registered a loss of 0.48 point on Wednesday to settle at 475.17 points when the market closed for the day.

Among the 63 companies present on the trading floor, 38 companies saw a drop in their share prices pulling down the NEPSE index. Only 18 companies witnessed a rise in their share prices. The commercial bank and others groups gained 0.35 point and 0.95 point respectively. Development banks, hydropower companies and finance companies lost 0.87 point, 0.53 point and 2.56 points respectively. The trading group saw no change in its index.

Out of the 23 commercial banks on the trading floor, eight banks made gains while 14 saw a fall in their share prices. Nabil Bank led the winners with its per share price rising by Rs. 29 while Everest Bank suffered the most, losing Rs. 16 per share. Shares of 16 development banks were traded on Wednesday with Nirdhan Utthan Bank topping the group with an increase in its per share price of Rs. 20.

Meanwhile, the finance company group dropped 2.56 points. Among the 16 finance companies whose shares were traded on Wednesday, Lalitpur Finance gained Rs. 10 per share to top the group while Prabhu Finance lost Rs. 37 per share.
