Speaker urges PM to call budget session
KATHMANDU, JUN 13 -
Speaker Subas Nembang on Sunday urged Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to call the budget session by forging consensus among the political parties.
Concerned about the delay in calling the budget session to discuss the government’s policies and programmes, Nembang went to the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar to urge him to do the needful.
“I urged the prime minister to implement the three-point agreement signed on May 28, forge consensus and call the budget session,” Nembang said.
According to Nembang, the Prime Minister is positive on holding “pre-budget discussions” on the annual policies and programmes. “He is serious about the issue and he assured me a way out after holding consultations with other parties,” Nembang added.
The main opposition, UCPN (Maoist), is not happy about the government not implementing the three-point deal and its unilateral decision to prorogue the seventh session of the House that would have discussed the budget.
The three-point deal states that the prime minister will resign without delay after resolving all contentious issues.
As per tradition, all decisions regarding House procedures are taken with consent from the main opposition party. However, Nembang had prorogued the House immediately after the Maoists boycotted the session.
