YCL takes Meghalaya issue to India mission
KATHMANDU, JUN 07 -
Young Communist League (YCL), the youth wing of the UCPN (Maoist), on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Indian Embassy, drawing the Indian government’s attention to the displacement of the Nepali speaking population in Meghalaya state of northeast India.
The YCL also drew India’s attention on the pilot channel in Koshi that is being built without consulting the government of Nepal.
“We condemn such inhuman activities of India and its people and urge the Indian government to be sensible over such issues and penalise those involved in the attacks,” the memorandum read.
The YCL was referring to attacks on people of Nepali origin in Meghalaya by the ethnic Khasi community that led to the death of about 17 Nepali speaking people and displacement of hundreds of them.
“Such activities can have a negative impact on the mutual relationship between the two countries,” the memorandum stated.
YCL Chairman Ganesh Man Pun submitted the memorandum to Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood.
The YCL also urged India to stop border encroachment in different places and interference in the internal politics of Nepal.
The memorandum stated that the Indian government and diplomats here are speaking about Nepali politics by crossing diplomatic lines. India should stop border encroachment in Kanchanpur, Susta and Pashupati Nagar immediately, the YCL said.
