SSB men givingKapilvastu folks harrowing time

MANOJ POUDEL

KAPILVASTU, MAY 31 -
The Indian border security force has been ‘harassing’ locals of bordering Krishnanagar in Kapilvastu district.

Locals said Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB) personnel recently detained and beat up some Nepalis in Krishnanagar and Badhani Bazaar of India for crossing the border.

“The SSB men deployed in the border point baton-charged Nepalis for entering the Indian territory,” said Jabed Askhtar, an Indian national who runs a mobile phone shop in Nepal’s Krishnanagar.

The SSB personnel have been pressurising people to halt trans-border movement despite the fact that people of both the countries have intertwined trade and family relations. They tell the same to the people who cross the border using the main checkpoint.

Locals said the SSB even harasses the people who are totally oblivious of their decree. “They have not yet issued public calls, requesting the people not to use Krishnanagar-Badhani border point,” said a local of Krishnanagar, requesting anonymity. The SSB has been pestering innocent Nepali people for crossing the border, he said.

According to locals, SSB personnel beat up Nepalis and also hands out ‘corporeal punishment’. The armed SSB men, they said, have been staying in no-man’s-land and they sometimes enter Nepali territory to

terrorise locals.

“The SSB personnel have been pestering Nepalis for the past two weeks

but nobody has voiced against them,” said a local shopkeeper.

When asked about the SSB harassment, local authorities said they are clueless over the matter.
