Buddha Air’s test flight to Paro
KATHMANDU, MAY 25 -
Buddha Air on Tuesday made a test flight from Kathmandu to Paro in Bhutan.
The aircraft departed from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 9 a.m. and landed at Paro airport at 10:15 a.m., a Buddha Air official said. Paro airport is 55 km from Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan.
The airline is scheduled to make direct flights to Bhutan from July 17. Rupesh Joshi, marketing manager of Buddha Air, said the airline would make four flights a week on the sector from July. The airline will make its regular flights on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
"We are planning to operate daily flights on the sector and have initiated further process at the ministry," he said. "If the ministry gives the go-ahead, we might start our daily regular flights from September."
As per the airline's business plan, the existing flights might be doubled in the tourist season. "We have initiated the plan to cater the need of overwhelming passengers during the tourist season," he said. The airline will use its 18-seater Beech 1900 D aircraft in Kathmandu-Paro sector. Joshi said that passengers movement was high during October, which is the prime tourist season. "During this period, numbers of passengers are compelled to be stranded due to the unavailability of air ticket," he said.
He said that airline could also make a charter flight per day if passenger movement increases during the season. Currently, Druk Air is operating on the Kathmandu-Paro sector. The airline is also planning to operate Pokhara-Lucknow sector. However, due to some technical problem the plan has been halted for some months.
