Indian minister held, released
KAPILVASTU, MAY 22 -
Nepal Police on Saturday held a minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh who strayed into Nepali territory along with her armed bodyguards.
According to Inspector Yagya Bhattarai, Vidya Chaudhary, the welfare minister of Uttar Pradesh, was held with four security personnel while they were found roaming around in Chandrauta, 22 km inside Nepal on the Nepal-India border without permission from the authorities concerned.
The minister, however, told the police that they were not aware that the territory was Nepal’s.
Police handed them over to the Indian side at Badhani in the evening.
SP Harka Bahadur Rawal said Krishnagar Area Police Post handed over the Indian minister to Badhani Police of India in the evening.
Chaudhary, a Bahujan Samaj Party leader, hails from Azamgadh and was elected in the Indian state’s Bidhan Sabha.
