Terhathum VDCs to get road access to markets
TERHATHUM, MAY 16 -
The District Development Committee (DDC) of Terhathum has initiated a
campaign to connect every village in the district by road to facilitate market access for local farm produce.
Roads are being built as part of a poverty alleviation strategy to connect all the 32 village development committees (VDCs) of Terhathum district. With only two months left for the fiscal year to end, local consumer committees are working on a war footing to complete construction. The villages will be linked to the national highways via the district headquarters.
Local Development Officer Khadga Bahadur Chapagain said that priority had been given to road construction in all the VDCs as roads were the main infrastructure required for development.
The DDC has expedited construction of seven rural and six agricultural roads besides a 20 km road connecting Myanglung, the district headquarters, with Okhre through Pingua and Lambudovan.
Rural roads include the Sanischare-Hakpara Ghat
road, Myanglung-Nagdaha-Mangalbare road, Sukrabare-Panchkanya road, Fakchamara-Sanischare-Hakpara Ghat
road, Ambung-Saksari power house road, Myanglung-Nagdaha-Tinkhopre road and Morahang-Paungthak-Ayokjung road.
Agriculture roads include the bus park-Myanglung Campus road, Sidhuwa-Sukrabare road, Myanglung-Simraghat road, Basantapur-Musangkhel road, Myanglung-Tamor road, Aathrai-Chuhandada-Jorshal road and Jiri-Khimti-Samdu road.
“A separate master plan for road construction will soon be formulated as roads are necessary for human development including education, health, employment, growth in agricultural productivity and access to market,” said Chapagain.
