Aviation disaster averted

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, MAY 11 -
Agni Air’s 9N-AIG D228 aircraft on Tuesday made an emergency landing in Pokhara after its hydraulic system failed.

The aircraft was five minutes into the flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu when the pilots detected the snag.

There were 17 passengers in the aircraft when Captain N.P. Pradhan made a safe emergency landing on the runway.

Former central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Shadev Rajbhandari, who was on board the aircraft when the incident occurred, said the pilot made an announcement that they were returning to Pokhara as they had detected a hydraulic system failure.

According to him, the pilot said the situation was normal and that he requested the passengers not to panic.

Chief of the Civil Aviation Office, Pokhara, Narendra Thapa said it was a technical glitch related to the brakes and gears of the aircraft. The aircraft will be sent for repair after an inquiry, he added.

Manager of Agni Air in Pokhara, Rijan Rijal, said the problem was “not serious.” He said such problems keep surfacing in aircraft.
