Govt to help resume supply of essentials

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, MAY 05 -
Home Minister Bhim  Rawal on Wednesday said the government would make arrangements necessary for the resumption of the supply of essential commodities such as medicine, gas, rice and vegetables.

Talking to reporters at his office in Singha Durbar, Minister Rawal added the help of the private sector and security agencies would be sought for the purpose. His statement comes at a time when Valley residents are facing an ever-growing shortage of essentials, coupled with rocketing prices of those scarcely available. The government plan, however, is not easy to carry out since UCPN (Maoist) cadres are obstructing the supply at various parts of the country.

Rawal also said the government would manage vehicles for those who have been stranded in the Capital to go home. The idea is also targeted at the return of Maoist cadres to various districts from the Valley. Some of those ferried into Kathmandu for the success of the indefinite general strike have already started trekking home.

Minister Rawal urged the agitating Maoists to adhere to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Interim Constitution while carrying out their political activities.  He also requested them to not lead the country towards confrontation.
