New IT policy to see daylight

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, MAY 04 -
A meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee of the cabinet on Tuesday approved the much awaited IT Policy aimed at facilitating outsourcing companies and developing the IT sector of the country in the long run.

The policy has incorporated issues related to e-governance, electronic traction and outsourcing companies, open source open technology and intellectual property rights, among other issues.

“The revised IT Policy 2010 has included all issues that emerged along with IT sector development in the country after 2000,” said Juddha Bahadur Gurung, member secretary of the High Level Commission for Information Technology. He said the new policy replacing the IT Policy 2000 had been approved with minor corrections in the final draft and would help buttress the outsourcing companies.

The policy is expected to work as a milestone in boosting software development as well as hardware and human resources. Apart from this, the policy will show how to promote the private sector to increase IT-based industries under the concept of public private partnership.

The High Level Commission for Information Technology is also planning to introduce a three-year integrated work plan to effectively implement the policy for the development of the IT sector in the country as most of the policies could not be implemented effectively.
