564-km road on Bihar border soon

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, APR 25 -
India will soon construct a 564-km road in Bihar along the Nepal-India border to promote trade and commerce between the two countries.

“A proposal for the construction of the 564-km road along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar for promoting trade and commerce between the two countries will soon be brought in the Cabinet for approval,” India’s Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Saturday after laying the foundation stone for an Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Pantoka of Raxaul.

“Around Rs 1, 752 crore will be spent on the construction of the road,” he said. Chidambaram also said the communication system in the border areas will be upgraded.

“The construction of roads along the border will help strengthen the bonds of friendship between India and Nepal, create employment opportunities and help in the development of the border areas,” Chidambaram said. He added that a similar check-post will be set up at Jogbani in May.

The construction of the ICP would be completed by June next year. India’s Border Security Force will manage the check post.
