CIAA fiat as diarrhoea toll rises

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU/BAITADI, APR 19 -
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed the Department of Health Services (DHS) to “properly” deploy doctors in their respective workplaces in Mid-and Far-western regions.

Keeping in view media reports that health institutions in districts vulnerable to diarrhoea, such as Jajarkot, Rukum and Dadeldhura, are acutely understaffed, the CIAA has also asked the authorities concerned to submit details of the situation in the regions.

“The CIAA has asked the DHS to submit a detailed report of the current status of doctors, medicines and their future efforts in fighting a possible pandemic,” CIAA Spokesman Ishwori Paudel said on Monday.

Meanwhile, in Baitadi, six people died of diarrhoea that has spread in six northern VDCs of the district in past three days. One-year-old Binita Saud of Sigas-4 died on Monday, while the others died on Saturday.
