Faster internet by mid-May
KATHMANDU, APR 18 -
Nepal Telecom has stated that it would also allow unlimited ADSL internet subscribers to switch to the volume-based internet service which is going to be launched by mid-May targeting users wishing to use limited internet with faster connectivity.
The Nepal Telecom-munications Authority approved the tariff for the new limited volume-based ADSL internet service last Friday.
This new model of pre-paid ADSL internet service offers a minimum of 2 GB data bandwidth with a speed of 512 Kbps for Rs. 660 per month. Similarly, for capacity download of 10 GB data, Nepal Telecom has fixed the rate at Rs. 2,780 per month.
According to Nepal Telecom, it is offering ADSL subscribers the option to switch so that they do not have to pay a fixed monthly charge even if they browse less. Currently, Nepal Telecom offers unlimited ADSL internet service for Rs. 900 and Rs. 1,400 per month for 128 Kbps and 256 Kbps respectively excluding VAT. Nepal Telecom spokesperson Surendra Thike said that the option had been provided to make the service responsive to the requirements of subscribers. “There is no change for those wishing to continue with the unlimited service or subscribe to it,” added Thike.
Users interested in subscribing to the volume-based ADSL internet service have to pay three months’ charges in advance after which they can make monthly payments. Nepal Telecom has spread its ADSL network to more than 30 districts covering 35,000 subscribers and plans to take this service to all 75 districts within the current fiscal year.
