Rajdhani daily asks for security

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, APR 17 -
Utsarga Publication, the publisher of Rajdhani national daily, has sought security from the government after repeated obstruction in its newspaper distribution and increasing threats to its journalists and staffers.

For some days, members of All Nepal Press and Publication Trade Union (ANPPTU) and Revolutionary Journalists’ Association (RJA) have been stepping up their attacks on Rajdhani’s staff, threatening journalists and obstructing the distribution of the  newspaper.

On Saturday, cycle boy Raju Bhujel and Dil Bahadur Lama were beaten up. The publication claimed that Naresh Gyawali and Bala Ram Wagle who profess to be members of RJA and others were involved in the attack.

“Gyawali, who joined this publication as a junior journalist attacked the cycle boys while they were distributing newspapers. We have taken this incident seriously,” said Dolendra Thapa, CEO of Utsarga Publication, in a statement.

The publication has flayed the attack. It has drawn the attention of the Press Council, Federation of Nepalese Journalists and political parties.
