NA to fill vacant technical posts

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, APR 15 -
The Nepal Army will announce vacancies for 300 technical positions next week, said an official on Thursday.

Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari had given a go-ahead for the recruitment process before her China visit last month, but the recruitment committee for the Nepal Army is yet to take its final call.

“The recruitment committee will hold its meeting in a day or two. The vacancy will be announced by next week,” said a committee member. The committee, chaired by Public Service Commission member Tika Dutta Niraula, comprises representatives of the Defence Ministry and the Nepal Army.

The Adjutant Department will announce the vacancy for fresh recruits following the committee’s decision. The vacancies this time, according to the source, will be announced for doctors, engineers, pilots and nurses, among others.

The Nepal Army had stopped new intake following the Supreme Court’s stay order against recruitment in March 2009. The court is yet to deliver its final verdict in the case. The committee member said they would go ahead as the Defence Ministry has given the green signal.

Earlier this month, Defence Minister Bhandari had stated the government would soon start fresh intake in infantry. The Army maintains that around 8,000-10,000 posts have remained vacant due to suspension of the recruitment drive. The UCPN (Maoist) has said recruitment in the Army would be a breach of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the former rebels and the government in November 2006.
